MARBURG
The university town of Marburg is definitely worth a visit! The old town (also called the upper town) is beautiful and there are many shops to go shopping and just as many small, winding streets and old, listed houses.
The Landgrave's Castle (Landgrafenschloss) can be easily reached on foot from the upper town. However, if the altitude meters are too strenuous for you, you can also park your car directly in front of the castle garden. The view from there is a dream during the day and also in the dark!

November to March: Tuesday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m
On and after public holidays: special regulation

Insider tip: If you're looking for the best vantage points, you absolutely have to go to the Kaiser Wilhelm Tower (also known as the Spiegelslust Tower). It is a bit higher than the Schloßberg and you have a fabulous view of the entire city including the Landgrave's Castle!
The Elisabeth Church (Elisabethkirche) is Marburg's most famous building. It doesn't matter whether you're a guest in Marburg or a local - hardly anyone doesn't visit the Elisabethkirche. Only a few know, at least beforehand, that it is actually a Marienkirche.

Marburg also has a lot to offer on a cultural level. The Hessian State Theater is at home in Marburg and those who prefer to watch acting on a screen should look at the program of the Marburg movie theaters (Cineplex, Capitol, open-air cinema).
After a visit to the cinema, you can sip a drink in the Villa Biedermeier cocktail bar (Gerhard-Jahn-Platz 3), directly behind the Cineplex or on the roof terrace of the 5 Jahreszeiten.
GIESSEN
The university town of Gießen offers guided tours. You can find the current schedule of events here. The city also offers a wide range of opportunities for children and young people.
Leisure program for children and young people
Insider tip: The mathematics center in Gießen offers fun for young and old. Even pre-school children can playfully explore mathematical relationships here.
City map Gießen (pdf)
The historic city theater in Gießen delights visitors with a changing schedule and a revolving stage. On the other side of Berliner Platz in Giessen, all moviegoers will get their money's worth in KINOPOLIS.
The Dachcafe is not far from the cinema and the municipal theater. The restaurant and bar has a lot more to offer than a café. Here you can have breakfast, lunch, dinner and cake! It's definitely worth a visit because, as the name suggests, it's "on the rooftop" of a high-rise building and offers a wonderful view of the city.
Insider tip: reserve a table with a view by the window (in summer on the Skybar roof terrace), preferably on a Sunday or public holiday between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. for brunch!
MJ's The Little Restaurant
The small, cozy restaurant in the city center can be reached on foot in 3 minutes from our apartments Frida and Savannah.
